MANILA: The Philippine president has rejected full public disclosure of details of his administration’s deadly anti-drug crackdown, citing national security.
President Rodrigo Duterte said in televised remarks Monday night that divulging confidential information like intelligence about suspects used by law enforcers for drug raids could undermine his administration’s campaign against criminality. Duterte has long faced demands from human rights groups to open up police records about the drug killings for scrutiny and for him to agree to an international investigation, a call he has steadfastly rejected.
Duterte compared the anti-drug crackdown to the government’s war against communist New People’s Army guerrillas.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi oil exports stood at about 2.9 million barrels per day (bpd) in May, little changed from the previous month, the country’s oil ministry said on Tuesday.
Exports from Iraq’s southern Basra terminals hit 2.8 million bpd during May, the ministry said, while shipments from Kirkuk through Ceyhan averaged about 99,000 bpd.
Iraq, which is OPEC’s second-largest producer, relies on oil exports for nearly all its state revenue. It was hit hard by the collapse in oil prices when the COVID-19 pandemic struck and struggled to pay public sector workers.

The S&P 500 (SPY), the Russell 2000 (IWM) and the Nasdaq 100 (QQQ) were all little changed, while U.S. Treasuries were essentially unchanged. International stocks performed better with developed markets gaining around 3% and emerging markets adding 2%.
The big story of the month, however, was the commodities market. Prices on everything from lumber to steel to wheat to oil have been soaring. Industrial commodity prices in some cases have come crashing back down to earth, but precious metals have done well as inflation expectations continue to rise and the dollar continues to fall.
